NEW PROJECT! Optional Protocol to CEDAW (added 04.03.08)
We have a pleasure to announce that the new project has been started in January 2008. It is called Building towards Eastern European and Central Asia NGO Coalition on Optional Protocol to CEDAW . The overall aim is to build capacity of women’s NGOs in CEE/CIS to use OP CEDAW to forward women’s rights. The project will involve Karat’s members from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine. Among main activities will include: trainings for representatives of women’s NGOs, On-line kits on OP CEDAW, Lobbying for ratification of OP CEDAW where relevant as well as media campaigns.

WOMEN IN CLOTHING INDUSTRY IN POLAND New Karat’s report!!! (added 11.02.08)
The report “Fair Play always in fashion - consumer’s awareness and working conditions of women in sporting goods industry” examines the working conditions of women employed in the sporting goods industry in Poland. In the report you can find:
- interviews with women working in the clothing industry in Poland

NEW KARAT BOARD 2008 (added 23.01.08)
Karat secretariat is pleased to announce that the Board election process has been successfully completed. With the end of the year 2007, three members of the Board finished their term of office.
We would like to thank Shorena Dzotsenidze from Georgia, Inete Ielite from Latvia and Aleksandra Solik from Poland for their work in the Board for the last two years and we are all looking forward to future fruitful cooperation.
Karat membership has elected three new Board members: Valentina Bodrug-Lungu from Moldova, Lyudmila Petina from Belarus, and Raluca Manaila from Romania. Congratulations and welcome!

Save CCC from being arrested! (added 12.12.07)
|
On December 1, an Indian court ordered the arrest of human rights activists from the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) and the India Committee of the Netherlands (ICN), as well as the director of Internet service provider Antenna. The activists and the internet provider are the targets of legal harassment by G-Star supplier Fibres and Fabrics International Pvt. Ltd. (FFI) and its subsidiary Jeans Knit Pvt. Ltd. (JKPL) in retaliation for disseminating information about labour rights violations.

Karat are official supporters of PlayFair 2008 Campaign (added 06.10.07)
|
PlayFair2008 is promoting implementation of the Olympics principals (especially fair play) also in the workplace. It is aimed at urging sportswear and athletic footwear companies, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), National Olympics Committees, as well as national governments to take steps to eliminate the exploitation and abuse of workers (women, in majority) in the global sporting goods industry.

Gender mainstreaming (added 11.09.07)
Karat together with its partners in the project funded by European Structural Funds “Gender mainstreaming in the labour market institutions” issued a brochure “Gender Equality in the Labour Market”. The publication aims at introducing the EU standards related to gender equality in the labour market and at presenting the ways of implementing the gender perspective into the projects on employment issues to the staff of the institutions and NGOs dealing with labour market. Unfortunately the publication is available only in Polish. The whole project focuses on training the labour institutions staff members in order to prepare them to implement the EU employment policies and standards.

As part of Phare funded project “Facilitate the access of Romanian NGOs to efficient methods for fighting against the gender stereotypes by participating within the regional KARAT Coalition” Karat's member organisation Org. AUR – National Association of Human Resources Specialists has published an Romanian version of "Economic literacy resources kit for CEE/CIS. Gender and economy. How not to be afraid of economic lobbying and advocacy" producedd by Karat in English and Russina under its Economic Literacy Program. To find our more about the Org. KARAT Coalition has a pleasure to inform you that now the Coalition has two new member of organizations. They are NGO ANTI-VIOLENCE NETWORK OF GEORGIA (AVNG) from Georgia and INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC FUND ‘PANGEA FOR A WORD FREE OF VIOLENCE’ from Kyrgyz Republic. The organization were accepted by the Board of Karat which has met in Warsaw on 20 and 21st of April 2007. Joining of Karat by INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC FUND ‘PANGEA FOR A WORD FREE OF VIOLENCE’ means that our Coalition has one more country among its members.
